Dr Helen Davies

BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, CEnv, MIEMA, ACIEEM

Helen is a Chartered Environmentalist with over 13 years’ experience, specialising in natural capital assessments for public and private sector clients. Helen advises clients on how best to achieve multiple benefits for biodiversity, climate change adaptation, and human wellbeing through enhancing green infrastructure.

Helen’s consultancy career has focused on improving the environmental sustainability of local, regional, and national government policy in the UK and Ireland. Project management of numerous Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) has enabled Helen to facilitate the integration of ecosystem services into planning policy, such as Northern Ireland’s Strategic Planning Policy Statement.

Her recent experience includes managing several green infrastructure projects, including piloting Natural England’s emerging national green infrastructure standards across Greater Manchester. Through engaging with stakeholders from each of the 10 local authorities, particularly regarding the ecosystem services needs of local communities and links with related policy agendas, the project will facilitate the integration of green infrastructure principles into planning decisions across the region.

Prior to this, Helen completed doctoral research on valuing the ecosystem services provided by urban trees. Through interviews, surveys and choice experiments, she found that urban payments for ecosystem services (PES) schemes, focused on addressing climate change impacts and human wellbeing, had support from local authorities, businesses and citizens.
