Logika Group’s 2024: A year of growth, innovation and impact

20-12-2024

As 2024 draws to a close, Logika Group has taken a moment to reflect on a year filled with remarkable growth, innovation and impactful contributions across its core sectors.

From expanding our team and our UK offices to delivering groundbreaking projects that address major environmental challenges – 2024 has been a milestone year. Here are some of our highlights.

Growing together

This year, we welcomed a wave of new talent to the team, increasing staff numbers by almost 40%. A particularly proud moment came in July when we celebrated our 100th team member – a testament to our continued appeal as a place to build a rewarding career.

To support our expansion, we opened a new office in Brighton within the vibrant Projects Beach space. This location complements our existing offices in Bristol, London, Warrington and Brussels, expanding our geographical reach whilst boosting capacity for projects with clients.

September saw another exciting milestone with our Bristol team relocating to a new, more central home at St. Augustine’s Court, right in the heart of the bustling cultural quarter of the city.

Delivering excellence

Amidst so much growth, Logika Group continued to deliver excellence across its core service areas of environmental impact assessment, air quality, climate, acoustics, flood risk, drainage, ecology, landscape, alongside environmental policy and economics – delivering critical input for major planning applications and policy development.

We also made significant strides in the carbon and climate change sectors, supporting major projects in rail, aviation and renewable energy. From planning and regulatory reporting to decarbonisation strategies, our teams provided vital services that align with global sustainability goals.

Some examples of projects we have delivered this year, showcasing both our innovative approach and technical leadership, are set out below.

One of our major goals as a group is to support the UK’s clean energy transition, with the renewables sector in particular becoming an increasingly important part of the work we do. Throughout 2024, we therefore supported both solar and wind schemes through planning, feeling particularly excited about One Earth – a major new solar farm proposed in the East Midlands. This is a project we have been supporting for almost two years now, with the submission of the Development Consent Order (DCO) application programmed for early 2025.

In addition to these efforts, the team also led the permit application project for another Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project within the energy sector, highlighting the scale and significance of our expertise and efforts.

Indeed, the acoustics team lent its experience to the development of national noise maps, helping to determine noise pollution levels along the UK’s roads, railways and major industrial sites and airports. The idea is that better understanding of both the extent and source of our noise problems will lead to better mitigation and management strategies – some of which have already been designed and implemented by Logika Group.

We also delivered critical research projects in other areas, most significantly collaborating with the Environment Agency and the European Commission to address topics such as carbon and funding for energy efficiency measures.

The environmental advice and strategic direction we have provided across all areas of expertise has supported our clients throughout this year, helping them, not only to achieve the right consent for their projects but also to embed environmental design within their schemes for the benefit of both people and nature.

Industry leadership and recognition

Our efforts paid off when, early this year, we were recognised by Environment Analyst as one of the top 25 fastest-growing and most forward-thinking consultancies in the sector – an accolade that underscores the hard work of our teams and the tangible impact we’re making.

Meanwhile, Technical Director, David Tyrer, was appointed to the Office for Environmental Protection’s new College of Experts. This prestigious position enables David to contribute to improving the UK’s environmental policies and scientific evidence base.

Likewise, extending the Group’s wider impact, Associate Director, David Birchby, was appointed to the UK Government’s Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants (COMEAP), advising the UK health departments on the effects on the health of both outdoor and indoor air pollutants, whilst Ben Marner – Director of Air Quality Modelling and Assessment – continues as an integral member of the Government’s Air Quality Expert Group (AQEG).

Caring for our communities and the environment

Beyond our project work, we continued to invest in team wellbeing and charitable initiatives throughout the year, with highlights including a series of walking routes designed for Mental Health Awareness Week, encouraging team members to explore their local areas.

We likewise extended support for the outside community, for instance, teaching children about air quality through engaging, hands-on activities at Newport’s Clean Air Event, taking part in Bristol’s 10 km Walk for Humanity to raise funds for the British Red Cross, and volunteering with the Trussell Trust in December. Our London team has wrapped hundreds of festive gifts for families in need.

Naturally, we also made time for fun, coming together for summer parties, charity quizzes and team-building activities, from treasure hunts to a tug-of-war. These moments not only strengthened our bonds but also reinforced the values that make Logika Group such a great place to work.

Looking ahead to 2025

As we look forward to the year ahead, Logika Group remains committed to growth, innovation and meeting new challenges, whilst seeking to ensure that everything we do and the advice we give contributes to a greener, healthier planet. We will continue to hire and welcome new team members throughout 2025, ensuring we have the expertise needed to support the projects of tomorrow.

The recent publication of the updated National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) will be of particular focus throughout the new year, with Logika Group doing all it can to support the government’s plans to deliver 1.5 million homes over the next five years – in a sustainable manner. This is in addition, of course, to helping the country – and indeed other nations – to meet net-zero commitments and heightened clean energy targets.

The anticipated publication of the UK’s seventh Carbon Budget will likewise provide further clarity for the year and even decade ahead, offering direction and momentum for national and local climate strategies. Logika Group will be at the forefront of these efforts.

At European level, the recent European Parliament elections and the new Commission set the stage for fresh priorities, including a Clean Industrial Deal and strategies to decarbonise industries, whilst reducing energy costs. Logika Group will do all it can to support this throughout 2025 and beyond.

The opportunities for impactful work have never been greater – and our team is ready to provide the expertise that both developers and policymakers need to achieve all kinds of ambitious goals sustainably, in a way that supports both communities and the environment.

Thank you to our team and clients

None of this year’s achievements would have been possible without the dedication, expertise and passion of our incredible team, as well as the trust and support of our valued partners and clients. Together, we are making a tangible difference for our communities, the environment and future generations.

As we close this chapter on 2024, we look forward to an exciting and impactful 2025. Here’s to another year of growth, collaboration and progress!
