Major green energy win for Logika Group as Rampion 2 wind farm approved

29-05-2025

The Rampion 2 offshore wind farm, located in the English Channel off the South coast of the United Kingdom, has received official development consent from Ed Miliband – the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Marking a significant step towards the UK’s renewable energy future, the announcement follows four years of consultation and engagement with support from environmental consultancy, Logika Group.

In partnership with WSP, Logika Group played a pivotal role in the planning process, leading all terrestrial ecology work.

With the project’s onshore infrastructure including almost 40km of underground cables through West Sussex, passing through sensitive environments like the South Downs National Park, Logika Group’s guidance here was imperative.

Responsible for delivering a comprehensive suite of environmental assessments and strategies – including the Ecological Impact Assessment, Biodiversity Net Gain Assessment and Landscape and Ecology Management Plan, amongst others – the Logika team ensured all ecological concerns were fully addressed and incorporated into design elements of the Rampion 2 project.

Comprising up to 90 offshore wind turbines with subsea cables bringing power to shore beneath Climping Beach, the consultancy team’s rich written and oral advice formed a critical part of the plan.

“This is a major project that puts clean energy and environmental responsibility hand in hand”, says Alan Kirby, Technical Director of Ecology at Logika Group. “Our work ensured the project could progress with full consideration of the rich biodiversity and protected landscapes along route. It’s a proud moment for our team to have helped lay the foundations for Rampion 2”.

The development, which will be eligible for entry into a future Contract for Difference (CfD) auction, is expected to be operational by the end of the decade.

Speaking about the approval, Danielle Lane, Director of Offshore Wind Development at RWE – one of the two joint venture partners leading the project – said: “Rampion 2 could play an important role in helping secure the UK’s energy supplies from our abundant wind resource and play a key role in supporting the UK Government’s clean power ambitions”.

With a proven track record of environmental expertise, Logika Group continues to support major infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe.

Every project is underpinned by scientific precision and a long-term vision for sustainability, with the Group providing true end-to-end support from initial scoping to post-completion monitoring, helping clients to deliver impactful, resilient projects with environmental responsibility at their core.
